This is coarse linen thread, hand spun by Charlie from our scutched flax fibre. He uses a simple drop spindle, one of the oldest forms of spinning. The price is for 10 metres.
It’s a lovely way to tie up parcels and labels or could be used in rustic floral arrangements or craft projects. A little bit of the new generation of Irish grown linen.
The flax was grown on our farm in Co. Tyrone, it’s a great crop for biodiversity. We don’t use any inputs – no bought in fertiliser, no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.
We harvest the flax by hand. We use harvested rainwater for retting which is then used on the land as an organic fertiliser.
The flax fibre has been scutched in our restored 1940’s Mackie’s scutching turbine before being hand spun by Charlie.
The old spool and drop spindle in the photos aren’t included.
Any purchase is helping us to restore local, regenerative textiles.
